“Shadowban”: myth vs. reality

Everyone loves the word shadowban: creators, “fix” services, group chats. It sounds like a secret sentence.

What the platforms say

Officially, Instagram and TikTok rarely use the phrase “shadowban.” But they really can:

  • show less content in recommendations and search
  • limit distribution after violations / spam
  • reduce visibility of specific posts
So the “I’m barely visible” effect is real. The name “shadowban” is folk slang.
