### Not either/or — a panel

This isn’t either/or. Words and tags reinforce each other — different buttons on the same panel.

### Roles

**Keywords** (search)

Search, topic, captions, description, speech

**Hashtags** (labels)

Topic labels, community, extra navigation

**On-screen text** (no sound)

Retention + topic for viewers with sound off

Hashtags help mark a post quickly for people and the platform. Keywords in text and speech make the topic clear as a whole. Together they’re stronger than alone.

### How to pair them in practice

A post about building a tag set:

- In speech/on screen: “How to pick hashtags for a post”
- In the caption: the same idea in human language, with phrases people search
- In tags: a relevant set for niche and topic — e.g. `#hashtags`, `#instagramtips`, `#contentplan`

> You don’t need to repeat one word ten times. Mirror the **meaning**: on screen, in the caption, and in tags — one clear topic.

### A strong combo

> **Rule:** A clear query phrase in the caption **plus** precise hashtags on the topic.
Then search and labels pull in the same direction.

## Check yourself

How should you combine tags and keywords?

1. Tags only — caption words aren’t needed
2. Meaning in speech/caption/on screen + relevant hashtags on the topic
3. Repeat the same words 20 times with no tags
4. Emoji only in the caption, no topic

Explanation: Keyword phrases explain the topic for search and people. Hashtags label it. The combo beats any single layer alone.
