How to build a working hashtag setLesson 3 of 5
Tags for Reels vs. feed posts
Different format — different set
Same account — different formats. The hashtag set can differ too. Not because of “Reels magic,” but because of different context.
Feed post (photo / carousel)
More often about:
- topic and value (“save this checklist”)
- niche and interest-based search
- sometimes a brand / series
Tags: niche + topic + detail. A format
#carousel almost never helps.Reels / TikTok / Shorts
Short video often rides recommendations, but tags still:
- help classify the topic
- work in search
- hint what the clip is about
A format slot only makes sense if it actually helps (e.g. a Reels community in your niche). Blindly slapping
#reels on everything is weak. What beats tags in video
On-screen text, the first words out loud, a caption with real phrases — often stronger than any hashtag. Tags are a top layer, not the foundation.
Practical split
Carousel guide
Topic + “how to” + niche
Reels hook
Niche + the clip’s specific story
Aesthetic / photo
Niche + style / genre
Don’t copy from the feed
Don't copy your carousel five onto a Reel “because lazy.” Thirty seconds to rebuild pays off.

Why might a Reels set differ from a feed post?
Explanation: Tags describe specific content. A Reel and a carousel often hit a different angle — refresh the set for it. On Instagram the limit is 5 for posts in general.
